Once again, CBL has reviewed the notices from the past year to assess which chemicals are most frequently the subject of Notices of Violation. And similarly to 2018, despite the more than 900 chemicals on the list, only 43 were the subject of notices in 2019 (there were 44 in 2018). And once again, DEHP was the most commonly noticed chemical by far. The thirteen most commonly noticed chemicals were these:
The following three chemicals were each the subject of nine notices: Bisphenol A (BPA), 1,1,1,2-Tetrachloroethane and Wood dust. These were each the subject of eight notices: Diethanolamine, Furfuryl Alcohol and styrene. Di-isodecyl phthalate (DIDP), Methanol, N-Nitrosodimethylamine and Nickel were each noticed three times. Noticed twice: Tobacco Smoke, Bromoform, Cumene, Demeclocycline hydrochloride, 1,4-Dioxane, Ethylene Glycol, Marijuana smoke, Naphthalene, Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA), Polychlorinated biphenyls, Radionuclides, Residual (heavy) fuel oils and Toluene. Finally, noticed once each were All-trans Retinoic Acid, Asbestos, Ethylbenzene, Formaldehyde Gas, and Talc containing asbestiform fibers.
In many instances, more than one chemical appeared in the notices. For example, of the 1209 notices for DEHP, 1173 identified one or more other chemicals. Similarly for the lead, DINP and acrylamide notices, more than 91% contain an additional chemical.
