Yes, the holidays and the son's wedding are over, and CalBizLit is back from hiatus. So Happy New Year.
As I indicated late last year, there will be a number of changes coming up here. I'm going to try to post an increased number of longer, substantive posts on the peculiarities of practicing law in the Golden State, particularly in the areas -- product liability, Proposition 65, business litigation, consumer litigation -- where CalBizLit toils in the fields. But we'll keep reporting on big (and weird) verdicts and other case outcomes, studies of the California court systems, and interesting stuff from the rest of the California blawgosphere (as soon as I get through the 255 posts that accumulated in my reader since Christmas Eve).
I'm also going to be inviting a number of guest posters to share a perspective other than mine, and, in some instances, I hope, to bring non-lawyer perspectives. A couple of these are lined up already, and should be posted before month's end. It also looks as though we'll be starting up "CalBizLit Media" with a series of pod-casts, and I hope to post more information about this later this week or early next.
Finally, I've decided it is time for CalBizLit to grow up a little bit. I've been watching the numbers slowly creep up, and realizing from some e-mails that there are actually some regular readers. I know they don't come here for Youtube videos of R & B performances, so I'm going to severely limit, if not eliminate, the off-topic posts. I want CalBizLit to be the best resource on the internet for non-California companies and others with limited experience with California litigation to learn about what goes on here. And sadly, the off-topic stuff doesn't advance us toward that goal.
On the other hand, I like the off-topic posts, and I'd like to do more of them, as well as post about movies, music, etc. So, in the next week to ten days, I'm going to set up a new site, tentatively called CalBizLItAfterHours.com, where I'll post about stuff I'm interested in that has nothing to do with law. For the three or four other people who like the off-topic posts, stay tuned.
For everybody else, stay tuned right here. I think it will get interesting.
